Kommetjie Primary School

A Cape Town primary school cutting its electricity costs with solar, at no upfront cost.

The project

In May 2025, we installed a solar PV system at Kommetjie Primary School in Cape Town under a Power Purchase Agreement.

The school pays only for the electricity generated by the system, at a contracted tariff. The system is funded, owned, operated and maintained by us, so the school had no capital outlay and carries no maintenance costs.

The savings

The school is projected to save R21,000 in its first year. The savings grow over time because the solar tariff escalation is capped at a maximum of 6% per year, or lower if municipal increases are lower.

  • Year 1 projected saving: R21,000
  • Year 10 projected annual saving: R70,000
  • Year 20 projected annual saving: R211,000
  • Projected 20-year cumulative savings: R2.2 million

What we handled

Data logging and system design, approvals, structural sign-off, installation, AMI smart meter, CoC and Pr Eng commissioning, and ongoing operation and maintenance.
